SEI’s first Pre-college Field Studies Experience held in Summer 2009

October 12, 2009

The Pre-College program introduced 28 high school students to Sewanee's environmental fields of study. This year’s students came from near and far, with home towns ranging from Stockton, CA to Baltimore, MD to Sewanee, TN. Field sessions included archaeology, biochemistry, botany, ecology, forestry, geology, GIS, environmental economics, and zoology. The program ran for two weeks and culminated in a group project, during which students combined ecology, hydrology, and archaeology to access forest dynamics. Outing activities, such as hiking, biking, and canoeing were incorporated into the schedule, introducing the students to the Domain’s outdoor opportunities.
